The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty opens wider, sits at ground level, and has grab bars and turning room for a wheelchair. Any event the public can walk into should have one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes and controls odor better, which guests notice at a reception or a rehearsal dinner.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink builds a sink, soap, and mirror into the unit, so nobody hunts for somewhere to wash up.

On private property, a unit in your driveway, backyard, or job site lot normally needs no city permit. The rules start once the unit touches public land.
The city is blunt about that. Newport News treats it as unlawful to place any stationary object in the city right-of-way, and its right-of-way rules count roadways, sidewalks along roadways, alleys, parks, public places, and easements as right-of-way. So a unit at the curb needs a permit first.
That permit is applied for online. You'll need a sketch of the work, general liability insurance naming the city, a temporary traffic control plan, and a refundable performance bond starting at $5,000. Fees vary with the permit type and the size of the work, so the Development Services Permit office quotes yours. Call them at 757-933-2311, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Events on streets, sidewalks, or other public right-of-way run through a separate special event permit, which also covers parades, walks, races, and block parties. File at least 30 days ahead for a limited event and 90 days ahead for an expanded one, and no earlier than 180 days out. The fee is $50 for a limited event and $100 for an expanded event. Anything expected to draw 500 people or more gets an extra fire and life safety review, with an inspection booked through the Fire Marshal's Office at 757-975-5400.
Two more offices come up often. Picnic shelters, athletic fields, and outdoor wedding sites are booked through Parks and Recreation at 757-926-1400, and they'll tell you what extra units are allowed. If you're feeding guests, vendors need a temporary food permit from the Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts at 757-594-7340, filed at least 10 days before the event. Your account manager can point you to whichever office controls your spot.
Choose firm, level ground with room for a service truck to pull alongside. Peninsula soil holds water, so a low corner of a yard that looks fine in August can swallow a wheel after a storm. Watch for low limbs, tight side gates, and cars parked where the truck has to swing.
Keep units 15 feet or more from food service, and well clear of storm drains, ditches, and the shoreline. On a job site, set them within about 200 feet of where people are working so nobody loses half a break walking. At an event, spread them out and give the accessible unit a flat, direct path.
A standard rental includes one service visit a week: pump the tank, wash the inside, restock paper and sanitizer. Long weekends, big crews, and August heat are all good reasons to add visits, and your account manager can schedule them around your busiest days.
The waste leaves the city through a regulated chain. Virginia licenses every sewage handler who empties and hauls portable toilet contents, and the Hampton Roads Sanitation District issues the discharge permits that let those haulers unload at its treatment plants. HRSD lists portable toilet waste among the wastes it accepts, inspects permitted haulers twice a year, and records every discharge on camera.
