The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty sits flat on the ground and gives you a wide doorway, grab bars, and wheelchair turning room. The City's event form asks how many accessible units you'll bring, so plan for them.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty adds a flush and stronger odor control, welcome at a wedding or a reception on the river.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink puts the sink, soap, and mirror inside the unit, which helps near a food row.
The Solar Porta Potty lights itself and runs its fan on solar power. That fits a farm field, a trail head, or a build site with no power hooked up.
The Handwashing Station stands on its own and holds clean water, soap, and paper towels. Food stands in Wisconsin need real handwashing, and sanitizer alone doesn't count.

Units kept on your own land, whether that's a driveway, a farmyard, or a fenced build site, generally need no City permit. Public ground and public events are another matter.
Public events: La Crosse runs a single special event permit through the City Clerk, and the deadline is 60 days before the event. File later and a late fee applies. Payment is due when you submit.
Your site plan: The plan has to show every street, alley, or right-of-way you're closing, where the barricades go, and where your portable toilets, trash and recycling containers, tents, vendors, fencing, accessible paths, and emergency access will be. Settle the unit locations before you draw it.
Who supplies the units: The City is blunt about this. Portable toilets are not provided by the City, and you contract for them yourself. Questions go to the City Clerk at 608-789-7510.
Insurance: You'll need a certificate of liability insurance with an additional insured endorsement. It can come in after the application, as long as it lands before the event.
Food vendors: Vendors are exempt from City permitting but must be permitted through the County or the State, and your vendor list is due at least 14 days out. The County health department can be reached at 608-785-9771.
State highways: Work in the right-of-way of an Interstate, US, or state highway needs a state permit first, and a copy stays at the site. Some highway segments inside city limits are maintained by the City, so check who issues the permit.

Look for ground that is firm and close to level. Pavement and packed gravel hold up well, while river-bottom soil and spring thaw ground can soften enough to trap a truck. Leave a straight approach with no low branches, tight gates, or cars parked at the curb.
Keep units at least 15 feet from food service and well away from the river, the marsh, and storm drains. On a job site, place them within 200 feet of the work so crews aren't crossing the whole lot.
One cleaning visit a week comes with a standard rental. On each stop the driver empties the tank, washes and disinfects the inside, and puts fresh paper and sanitizer in. Festival weekends and big crews often move to two visits, and so does a hot, humid stretch in July.
Wisconsin licenses this work from end to end. Every septage business that services or disposes of waste, portable restrooms included, must hold a state license, every servicing truck is inspected and registered, and the load goes to a permitted or licensed facility that can store or treat it.
