When the dumpster stays on private property, like your driveway or yard, you generally won't need a City permit in Phenix City. Placing it in a street, an alley, or on a sidewalk is different.
Phenix City's code treats anything left in a public street or sidewalk as an obstruction. A lawful obstruction needs approval from the City's Engineering Division, and the application has to include an approved traffic control plan.
The Engineering Division handles utility, driveway, stormwater, and other City permits, but it doesn't post a fee for a street obstruction. Call 334-448-2760 to ask about cost and timing. The office is at 1206 7th Ave., Second Floor, and it's open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Keep the time zone in mind. Phenix City runs on Eastern time like nearby Columbus, Georgia, one hour ahead of most of Alabama.
