These are the main things that shape a dumpster price in Billings.

The 15-Yard Dumpster handles a garage cleanout, a flooring tear-out, or a small roof. It gives you more room without a big price jump.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is a go-to size in Billings for whole-home cleanouts and remodels that span several rooms.
The 30-Yard Dumpster suits larger renovations, new home construction, and demolition with mixed materials.

A dumpster on private property, like your driveway or a job site, usually doesn't need a City permit in Billings. If it sits in a street, alley, or sidewalk, it does.
Billings doesn't have a permit just for dumpsters. The one that covers objects in the public right-of-way is the Encroachment Permit, which the City lists on its contractor and permit services page for $75. If the container affects traffic, the City also offers a free Traffic Control Permit.
Both come from the Engineering Division of Billings Public Works, on the fifth floor at 316 N. 26th Street. The City doesn't list a processing time, so call ahead if your delivery date is set. Reach the Engineering Division at 406-657-8231.

Most construction and cleanout debris can go in your container. The Billings Regional Landfill's own rules set most of the limits.
The landfill won't accept radioactive materials or commercial hazardous waste. Ammunition, fireworks, and explosives go to the Billings Police Department bomb squad instead.
Household hazardous waste, like paint, solvents, pesticides, automotive chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, and gasoline, is taken at the landfill for special handling. It can't go in your dumpster. Electronics and medical waste also need special handling, so keep them out of your load.
Asbestos and vermiculite insulation have strict rules. The landfill takes them by appointment only, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and not in bad weather. Call the City's Environmental Affairs Team at 406-247-8633 with questions. Liquids and fuel are off limits in a standard dumpster too.

Loads from Billings go to the Billings Regional Landfill at 5240 Jellison Road, Billings, MT 59101. The City of Billings runs it. It's open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and closed Sundays and some holidays. The landfill phone is 406-657-8285.
To get there, take South Billings Boulevard south across the Yellowstone River, then turn west on Jellison Road. The landfill page notes that City residents can drop off household trash loads under 1,500 pounds for free, and County residents get the same for loads under 700 pounds.
The landfill charges by weight, and every load has to be secured. Winds can be strong out there, so the City asks for bagged, tied trash. Your account manager will confirm where your load is headed and explain the fees before delivery.
