The City expects event organizers to handle their own sanitation. Its own Tourist Park rental terms say large events may need extra sanitation and that arranging portable toilets is the booking party's job. The Standard Porta Potty does most of the work up here. Toilet, urinal, paper holder, hand sanitizer, and enough for a framing crew or a family gathering.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty enters level with the ground, opens wide, and has grab bars and turning room inside. Any event the public attends needs one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes and controls odor better, which guests appreciate at a lakeside wedding.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink puts a sink, soap, and a mirror inside, which helps at family events and beside food.
The Solar Porta Potty lights and vents itself from a panel. On a trailhead, a remote cut, or a late-season evening event, that lighting matters.
The Handwashing Station is a stand-alone sink with clean water, soap, and towels. Michigan requires soap and paper towels at each handwashing point for food vendors.

On private property, generally no. A unit in your yard, on your driveway, or inside a fenced job site needs no City permit. Public ground and organized events are where the paperwork begins.
Streets, sidewalks, and paths: Marquette counts streets, sidewalks, and multiuse paths as public right-of-way. An event that uses one needs a right-of-way permit from the City's Engineering Department, and the City asks for the application at least four weeks ahead. Engineering, Public Works, Police, Fire, and Community Services all review it. Call Engineering at 906-228-0440.
Fees: A community event permit carries no permit fee, though the City bills you for the services it provides. A block party permit costs $300, which covers barricade rental and delivery, and it is approved only for a single-block closure on a residential local street.
Insurance: Any event that blocks or slows a street or sidewalk needs coverage naming the City as an additional insured. Block parties are included.
Parks: Events in a city park go through Parks and Recreation at 906-228-0460. The Tourist Park picnic sites rent from May through October, and the City notes that park restrooms stay open to the public, so a rental does not give you exclusive use of them.
Downtown: Events inside the downtown development district also need that director's sign-off.
State highways: US 41 and M-28 are state routes. Non-standard use of that right-of-way takes a permit from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Food vendors: A temporary food license comes from the local health department. Toilets have to be conveniently located and available to workers the whole time, and the state says portable toilets meet that requirement.
If you can't tell who controls your spot, your account manager can find the right office before the truck rolls.
Set units on firm, level ground with a clear approach for a full-size truck. Spring thaw turns two-tracks and gravel lots soft, and a plowed drift can close a service lane overnight, so keep the path open in winter and put gravel or plywood under the unit in spring.
Keep every unit at least 15 feet from food service, and well away from creeks, the lakeshore, storm inlets, and well heads. On a job site, place them inside about 200 feet of the work. At an event, break them into small groups so no single line forms, and give the accessible unit flat, solid footing.
A standard rental includes one service visit a week. Busy festival weekends and large crews often want two.
Where does it end up? Michigan treats portable toilet waste as septage and licenses the company that services the units as a septage waste servicer, with the license displayed on the truck. The Marquette County Health Department inspects every one of those trucks each year and also licenses the facilities that receive and store the waste, which has to go to an authorized receiving facility.
