On your own land, a yard, a driveway, a ranch or a fenced job site, a unit normally needs no City permit. Public ground works differently.
Street closures and events: A block party, a parade, a procession or anything that shuts a street needs a street permit from Marketing and Special Events, and the request goes in 30 to 60 days ahead. You also collect signatures from residents and businesses along the closure, pick up a free event map from the City GIS office, and turn in a traffic control plan at least 14 business days out. City parks: A gathering of 50 or more in a City park needs a park permit, also filed 30 to 60 days ahead. Groups of 100 or more carry liability insurance naming the City. Railyard bookings go through a separate line at 505-982-3373.
Digging in the right-of-way: Any work that cuts into City pavement needs a street cut permit from the Streets Division, so mention it early if your site plan touches the road.
Food vendors: Booths need a permit from the New Mexico Environment Department to run a temporary food establishment. Every setup needs handwashing, whether that's a spigot container with a catch bucket, a portable sink, or a plumbed sink, and soap, paper towels and a trash can at each one.

Look for firm, level ground first. Loose sand and dry arroyo soil shift under a loaded unit, and a hard summer rain can turn a good spot soft in an hour. Give the truck a straight, open lane with room to turn around.
Keep units at least 15 feet from food service, and well back from wells, ditches and storm drains. On a job site, set them within about 200 feet of the work. At an event, break them into two or three groups so guests are not walking the whole site.
