The City of Bozeman calls this an encroachment permit. The City describes it as the permit you need to use the public right-of-way without cutting into concrete or asphalt. Public Works sets separate base fees for residential and commercial permits, plus a weekly charge once a permit runs past two weeks. Outside the city limits, county roads fall under the Gallatin County Road and Bridge Department. Its department page notes that it doesn't allow work in county road rights-of-way after October 31 until the spring thaw, except for approved emergency repairs. Call the department at 406-582-3250.

Most household and construction debris is fine to load. The landfill's own rules set most of the limits.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. Logan Landfill refuses friable asbestos outright, and non-friable asbestos is billed as heavy construction debris. Contaminated soil has to be tested by a lab before the landfill will take it, and waste motor oil and antifreeze are accepted only in containers of five gallons or less.
Montana takes a lighter approach to statewide bans than many states. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality says the state has no law banning electronics from landfills, and it notes that Montana's distance from recycling markets makes landfill bans hard to justify. Even so, the landfill charges electronics under their own fee line, so mention a TV or computer when you book.
Keep appliances with refrigerant and tires out of the main load and mention them when you book.

In town, the Bozeman Convenience Site at 2143 Story Mill Road, Bozeman, MT 59715, is owned by the City and run by the district. It's open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 406-587-7890. It's meant for residents dropping off small household loads, not for full trailers of trash or construction debris, and the district says it isn't a transfer site.
