Derry controls anything happening in a municipal roadway through the Department of Public Works, and its own permit language covers work in or under town streets and roadways, subject to whatever conditions and restrictions the department imposes. In practice that means a street placement is a conversation with the town, not something to arrange after the truck has arrived.
The Highway Department works out of the Derry Municipal Center at 14 Manning Street and takes calls at 603-432-6144. That's the number to use when you need to confirm whether a spot counts as town road.

New Hampshire tightened its battery rules in July 2025, and rechargeable lithium-ion batteries can no longer go in household trash at all. They have to be recycled, and the Derry Transfer Station runs a program for them. Cordless tool packs and e-bike batteries are the ones people forget on a job site.
Appliances with refrigerant are handled separately. A refrigerator, air conditioner, or dehumidifier goes through a freon removal step rather than into a mixed load, and each one carries its own charge.
Televisions and computer monitors are also billed per piece rather than by weight, which means they need to be declared and kept out of the container.
Paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides, and other household chemicals belong at the town's hazardous waste collection day rather than in any container. Derry's next one is listed for Saturday, May 9, 2026.
