A dumpster on your own driveway or private lot generally doesn't need approval from the Town. If any part of it sits in a Town-owned road, right-of-way, or easement, you need a right-of-way permit first.
The Town of Londonderry Department of Public Works issues that permit. Its right-of-way permit page says permits must be obtained at least 72 hours before work begins. If your frontage is on a state-maintained highway, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation may require a separate permit.
The right-of-way can reach farther than you'd think. The Town says it's often 50 feet wide and usually extends 10 to 20 feet from each side of the road, so the end of a driveway may already be Town property.
The Town doesn't list a fee or review time for this permit. Call the Engineering Division at 603-432-1100, extension 460, before you pick a delivery date. Public Works is at 268B Mammoth Road. Your account manager can also help you reach the right Town contact.
Most household and remodeling debris is fine to load. New Hampshire law sets some firm limits on what can go to a landfill.
State law says no one may put wet-cell batteries, lithium-ion batteries, or electronic devices in any New Hampshire landfill or incinerator. That covers car batteries, cordless tool packs, laptops, TVs, and old computers.
Leaf and yard waste is banned from landfills and incinerators too, so grass clippings, leaves, and brush need a separate route.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. Refrigerators and air conditioners also need special handling because of the refrigerant.
Residents have a good option for many of these items. The Town's Drop Off Center takes rechargeable batteries, car batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and yard waste at no charge, and it accepts electronics for a small fee.

The Town of Londonderry runs its own Drop Off Center at 13 Recovery Way, off West Road. For 2026, it's open Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., from April 11 through November 21, and Wednesdays, 3 to 7 p.m., from April 15 through September 2. Payment is by check or card only.
The Drop Off Center is set up for residents hauling their own loads. It accepts building materials like lumber, sheetrock, carpet, and pressure-treated wood by the cubic yard, but not railroad ties, asbestos, paint cans, gas cans, or liquids. It's closed from late November until April.
Curbside trash in Londonderry is collected by a contracted hauler, and the Town doesn't list where that waste is finally disposed of. For roll-off loads, the destination depends on your debris and the hauling route. Your account manager will confirm where your load is going and explain the disposal fees before delivery.
Most dumpster rentals in Londonderry can be scheduled within one to two business days, with the container arriving in a 24 to 48 hour window. If it has to sit in a Town road, add the 72 hours of notice the Town requires.
