The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty rolls in at ground level, with a wide door, grab bars, and floor space for a wheelchair to turn. Public gatherings should always include one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes and holds odor down better, which guests notice at a reception or a milestone birthday.

On private ground, no. Maine settled this in 2024: a state notice from the Maine CDC confirms you may place and use a temporary portable toilet on your property with no written approval from a plumbing inspector and no seven-day cap, as long as it is kept clean and serviced properly. Licensed food businesses are the exception and still need that written sign-off.
City streets and sidewalks: Portland's street rules bar putting any object in or on a public way without a permit. Public Works handles that through the street and sidewalk occupancy permit, and the City asks for proof of insurance before it issues one. Apply before you set a delivery date.
Parks and public grounds: Hosting 25 or more people at a City park means a permit first. Deering Oaks, the Eastern and Western Promenades, Back Cove, Payson Park, Monument Square, and Lincoln Park all fall under that rule. The Parks and Recreation director signs off, and requests go in through the City's use of public space process. File at least 30 days out or a late fee kicks in. The City will accept an application as early as 18 months ahead, which is worth knowing for a summer date.
Food at your event: Vendors serving food need a temporary eating place license from the state, good for a single community event of no more than 14 days. The state's guide for mobile and temporary vendors says each stand needs a handwashing setup with warm water, soap, paper towels, and a bucket for the used water, poured so both hands can be washed at once. Portland's own inspectors check those stands.

Flat and firm beats convenient. Gravel, pavement, or packed soil all work. Soft lawn after a coastal rain does not, and a unit that settles on one corner is unpleasant to use.
Give the truck room. Our drivers need an open lane, clearance overhead, and no cars boxing the unit in. Winter adds its own problem here, so keep the spot plowed and salted or we may not reach it.
Set units at least 15 feet from where food is served, and well back from storm drains, wells, and the shoreline. On a job site, keep them inside a two-minute walk of the work so nobody loses half an hour crossing the lot.
A weekly visit is standard. The driver pumps the tank, scrubs the inside, and refills paper and sanitizer. Heavy crews, hot stretches, and festival weekends earn extra stops, and your account manager can add them.
