In Elko, the landfill's own price list tells you a lot about where your quote will land.

If your dumpster sits on private property, such as your driveway or a job site, you generally don't need a permit. It's a different matter when the container would take up part of a street, alley, or sidewalk.
Inside city limits, start with the City of Elko Building Department. Its permit portal lists building, electrical, and plumbing permits but no street placement permit, so a phone call is the quickest way to learn what the City needs. Call 775-777-7220. The office is at 1751 College Avenue and is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Outside the city, on county roads, Elko County uses a Public Right of Way Encroachment Permit. The form carries a $100.00 fee that isn't refundable, and you must give the county two working days' notice before work starts. The Elko County Planning, Zoning, Building and Safety office is at 540 Court Street, and its phone is 775-738-6816.

Most construction and cleanout debris can go in your container. The limits come from Nevada's disposal rules and from the City's landfill.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection says used oil and batteries can't be thrown away in landfills. Waste tires are closely regulated, and anyone hauling them has to register with the state, so keep tires out of your dumpster unless you've cleared it with us.
Asbestos has its own state handling and disposal rules, and friable asbestos needs special handling from start to finish. Lead-based paint from a home project can go to a regular landfill, as long as it came from the household.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel can't go in a standard dumpster either. For households, the landfill takes items like fluorescent bulbs, motor oil, antifreeze, oil-based paint, and pesticides by appointment. That service is for non-commercial customers only.

Elko handles its own disposal. Dumpster loads from the area go to the City of Elko Sanitary Landfill at 2200 Pinion Road in Elko.
