In many towns, a dumpster on private property, like a driveway, needs no permit. Erlanger works differently, so plan for a permit even if the container never touches the street.
The City's Temporary Storage Unit Permit covers dumpsters along with tents, canopies, and portable storage units. The application asks where the unit will go, with boxes for a driveway, a yard, or the street. It also asks for the name of the rental company, so you, as the resident, file the form.
A dumpster may stay on the property for 30 days at most. The City doesn't post a fee or a review time for this permit, so ask before you lock in a delivery date. For questions, call the City at 859-727-2525.
Erlanger Public Works, at 26 Montgomery Street, handles a separate encroachment permit for work that cuts into the street. That one isn't for dumpsters. If you aren't sure which form fits your spot, your account manager can help you reach the right City contact.
