The 20-Yard Dumpster is a popular size in Mandan for emptying a whole house or tackling a remodel that spans several rooms.

A container on private property, such as your driveway or your own lot, doesn't need a City permit in Mandan. The City's permit list doesn't include one for dumpsters.
Street placement is different. Work in the public right-of-way is handled by the City's Engineering Department, which issues right-of-way permits for concrete and utility work. The City's right-of-way page also says every contractor working in the City right-of-way must hold a North Dakota contractor license.

Most remodel and cleanout debris is fine. North Dakota law and the City's landfill rules set the exceptions.
North Dakota law says lead-acid batteries, used motor oil, wind turbine blades, and major appliances can't be thrown away in a landfill. Major appliances include refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, furnaces, and air conditioners. The City's landfill takes appliances at a separate per-item fee so they can be recovered.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. Tires and electronics are accepted at the landfill for a per-item fee, so keep them out of your mixed load and mention them when you book.
The landfill also cares how loads arrive. Untarped or unsecured loads are charged an extra fee and can be turned away.

Mandan runs its own landfill, and loads from the city go there. The City of Mandan Landfill is at 4103 County Road 82, Mandan, ND 58554, about 3 miles west of town off Business Loop 94, the old Highway 10.
According to the City's landfill page, it's open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. It's closed Sundays and on City holidays. The landfill's phone number is 701-667-0184, and Public Works answers other questions at 701-667-3240.
Wind is a factor here. When winds reach 20 mph or more, the landfill stops taking loose loads of inert material, like concrete and dirt, so a windy day can push back a pickup.
