Most construction and household debris can go in your container. The limits come from North Dakota's landfill ban and from the Fargo landfill's own permit.
North Dakota bans three things from every landfill in the state: major appliances, lead-acid batteries, and used oil. The state's Department of Environmental Quality says major appliances include washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, and water heaters.
The Fargo landfill adds its own list. Under its permit, it can't take liquids, hazardous waste, electronics, mercury devices, manure, or infectious waste. It also doesn't accept concrete, tree stumps, or roots, and it won't take appliances with Freon.
Paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos stay out of a standard dumpster as well. West Fargo residents can drop off paint, stains, automotive fluids, oil filters, lithium-ion batteries, TVs, and computers for free at Fargo's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 606 43 1/2 St. N.
