The 15-Yard Dumpster is a good fit for a basement or garage cleanout, carpet from a few rooms, or a small roof. It gives you more space without a large footprint.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is a popular choice for whole-house cleanouts and remodels that cover several rooms. Most home projects in Lexington fit inside it.
The 30-Yard Dumpster handles large renovations, additions, and new home builds. It holds a lot of framing lumber, drywall, and siding.
The 40-Yard Dumpster is our largest size. It's made for commercial construction, big demolition jobs, and office or retail cleanouts.

A dumpster on private property, such as your driveway or a job site lot, usually doesn't need a permit in Lexington. If it blocks any part of a street, you need one.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government issues a lane blockage permit for that. The permit covers placing a dumpster, a storage pod, or a large trash container on the street. It's free, but it's required anywhere in Fayette County when any part of a street is blocked.
You can apply online or with a PDF form. The City also posts special guidance for dumpster placement and a sample traffic control plan. Traffic Engineering handles these permits from its office at 101 E. Vine St., weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Most remodeling and cleanout debris is fine to load. The limits come from Kentucky's landfill rules and from the facilities that take your load.
Kentucky's Energy and Environment Cabinet permits separate landfills for household waste and for construction debris. Landfills for construction debris take only non-hazardous building and demolition waste, so mixing in household trash or chemicals can cause a load to be turned away.
On top of that, keep hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos out of a standard dumpster.
The city's regional transfer station also refuses asbestos, all batteries, contaminated soil, liquid paint, pesticides, free-flowing liquids, and anything containing mercury or Freon. Tires and appliances cost extra there. Lead paint can only go to a household hazardous waste collection event.
