The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources bans a long list of items from landfills. Electronics, lead-acid batteries, major appliances, used oil filters, waste oil, and waste tires are all on it. Yard waste is banned too, including grass clippings, leaves, and brush under six inches across.
The state also bans common recyclables from landfills. That includes cardboard, newspapers, magazines, office paper, glass bottles, aluminum and steel cans, and #1 and #2 plastic containers. Flatten cardboard boxes and recycle them instead of tossing them in the dumpster.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either.
