The 15-Yard Dumpster handles a kitchen remodel, a packed garage, or flooring pulled from several rooms. It is a useful step up when a small container would be cutting it close.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the size most Lawrence homeowners choose. It takes a whole-house cleanout or a roof tear-off on a typical two-story house, and it still fits in most driveways.

A container on private property, such as a driveway or a fenced work site, generally needs no City permit in Lawrence. The street is a different matter, and Lawrence is unusually specific about it.
City rules say a roll-off dumpster may go in the street only when Municipal Services and Operations decides there is no safe place for it on private property. When that is the case, a right-of-way permit is required, and the same permit covers any other obstruction of the public way. Applications go through the City's online permit portal, and staff confirm the final cost after they review the plan.

Most remodeling and cleanout debris is fine to load. The limits come from Kansas rules and from what the local facilities will accept.
Kansas handles tires through a state permitting system. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment licenses waste tire facilities and transporters and keeps a current list of them, so tires need their own route rather than a spot in your container.
Hazardous waste, liquids, wet paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos all stay out of a standard dumpster. Douglas County's household hazardous waste guidance draws a clear line for a couple of common items: paint cans that are empty and fully dried can go in the trash, and so can non-mercury and LED bulbs, but wet paint, pesticides, cleaners, mercury thermometers, and household batteries cannot.
Electronics and asbestos need separate handling and are refused even at the hazardous waste site. Ask your account manager before anything unusual goes over the rail, since one wrong item can hold up a whole load.
