Here's what moves the cost of a dumpster in Wichita.

The 20-Yard Dumpster is a favorite in Wichita for roof replacements on a typical ranch house and for full home cleanouts. It gives most household jobs plenty of room.

If your dumpster sits on private property, like a driveway or a job site lot, you usually don't need a permit in Wichita. A permit comes into play when the container uses part of a street, sidewalk, or alley.
For that, the City of Wichita Department of Public Works & Utilities issues a Use-of-Street Permit. The permit form sets the fee at $0.009 per square foot per day, plus $55.00. You'll also need barricades or other traffic control, and the container can't block a fire hydrant, a storm drain, or water flowing in the gutter.

Most construction debris and household junk can go in a roll-off. The limits depend on where the load goes, and in Wichita, building debris and household trash go to different places.
Brooks Landfill is a construction and demolition landfill. It takes debris from building, remodeling, and tearing down structures, plus tree limbs and other vegetation. Loads mixed with regular household garbage get charged a much higher rate, and barrels aren't allowed at all. If a load holds waste the landfill can't take, it gets turned away.
The City's disposal guide says household hazardous waste should never go in a dumpster. That includes paint, motor oil, lawn and garden chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, and batteries. Take those to the Sedgwick County Household Waste Facility at 801 Stillwell. Liquids, solvents, fuel, and asbestos also stay out of a standard dumpster.
Mattresses, electronics, tires, and appliances with Freon each carry a per-item fee at Brooks. Let your account manager know about them before you load.

Most building and remodeling debris from Wichita goes to Brooks Landfill at 4100 N West Street, Wichita, KS 67205. The City of Wichita runs the landfill through its Public Works & Utilities department.
From March through October, Brooks is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. From November through February, it closes at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. It's open Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon all year, and it's closed on Sundays and major holidays.
Household trash follows a different path. According to Sedgwick County, it goes to a transfer station and then to a landfill in Harper County. If your dumpster holds mostly household junk instead of building debris, your load may take that route.
