Kansas law defines what counts as construction and demolition debris, and several items are left out of that group. They include friable asbestos, household garbage, tires, drums and other containers, electrical equipment with hazardous parts, and appliances or furniture that still hold Freon or similar refrigerants. Those items can't ride along in a construction load. They need to be handled on their own.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos don't belong in a standard dumpster at all. The good news is that Seward County takes household hazardous waste such as pesticides, cleaners, used oil, paint, chemicals, and car batteries at the landfill. The service is free for residents, up to five gallons or 25 pounds per trip.
Cardboard, paper, cans, glass, and some plastics can go to the City's recycling center at 118 E. 4th Street, which is open around the clock.
