The 10-Yard Dumpster is the shortest container we deliver, which helps on the tight lots downtown. It suits one bathroom, a small tear-out, or dense debris such as plaster, brick and concrete.
The 15-Yard Dumpster takes a garage, a porch rebuild, or flooring and trim pulled out of two or three rooms.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the size most Lewiston customers end up with. It handles a full apartment turnover or a kitchen and bath remodel run together.

A container on private property, such as your own driveway or a fenced site, needs no City paperwork. The moment it takes up a sidewalk, a shoulder, an alley or a parking space, Lewiston wants a permit first.
The City's street and sidewalk occupancy policy covers contractors, business owners and residents who occupy the rights of way while working on private property. Applications go to the Business Office at City Hall on Pine Street at least 48 hours before the start date, and the approved permit has to be collected in person before work begins.
Two conditions catch people out. You have to show evidence of insurance before the permit is issued, and you must be current on everything you owe the City. A street or sidewalk closure follows a separate track, with a traffic control plan and sign-off from Fire, Police and Public Works.

Ordinary building and cleanout debris is fine. The limits come from Maine law and from the City's own operating permit.
Maine bans screens from disposal. The Department of Environmental Protection states that it is illegal to throw away cathode ray tubes and LCD screens in Maine, because televisions, computers and monitors carry lead, mercury, cadmium and other toxics.
Lewiston groups those items with fluorescent bulbs and printers as universal waste, and a business bringing them to the City facility has to fill in a log first. None of it belongs loose in a container.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel and asbestos are never allowed in a roll-off container.
