What Changes the Price in Phoenix, AZ

Here's what pushes the cost of a Phoenix dumpster rental higher or lower.

Size matters first. A bigger container costs more up front, while one that's too small can lead to a second haul.

Weight matters a lot here. Phoenix projects often involve pool decking, block walls, gravel, and concrete pavers, and all of it is heavy. Dense loads use up your included tonnage fast, so a smaller container is often the smarter pick for masonry.

Disposal is charged by weight too. The City of Phoenix transfer stations charge $55 per ton with a $40 minimum for every load. The City also adds a $20 penalty when a load arrives without being secured.

Street placement is the last piece. A driveway drop is simple. A container that restricts a City street has to go through the Street Transportation Department first, which can add a few days.

What Size Dumpster Do I Need in Phoenix, AZ?

Start with the amount and weight of your debris. Prime Dumpster rents five sizes, from 10 to 40 yards.

The 10-Yard Dumpster is our smallest size. It's the right call for tearing out a concrete slab, a block wall, or pool deck pavers, since that material reaches the weight limit long before the container is full. It also handles a bathroom remodel or a small cleanout.

The 15-Yard Dumpster fits a kitchen update, a garage cleanout, or pulling tile out of a few rooms. It gives you more space than a 10-yard at a small step up in price.

The 20-Yard Dumpster is a go-to size in Phoenix for whole-home cleanouts and flooring jobs across several rooms. It also works well for a tile roof tear-off on a smaller home.

The 30-Yard Dumpster is made for large remodels, additions, and new homes. It's a good match when the job creates a lot of mixed debris.

The 40-Yard Dumpster is the biggest container we offer. It's built for commercial construction, large demolition, and big cleanouts at stores, offices, or warehouses.

Tell your account manager what the job involves, and they'll recommend the size that fits.

Do I Need a Permit for a Dumpster in Phoenix, AZ?

If the dumpster sits on private property, such as your driveway or a job site, you usually won't need a City permit in Phoenix. A permit comes into play when the container restricts a public street, bike lane, or sidewalk.

The City's Right-of-Way Management Office, part of the Street Transportation Department, handles traffic control for temporary street restrictions tied to construction work. Restrictions are requested through the City's TRACS permit, and barricades must meet the City's barricade manual. Many projects use a certified barricade company for that part.

The City doesn't post a dumpster fee or a set review time for these requests. Call the office at 602-262-6235, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Your account manager can help you figure out whether your spot is in the right-of-way and who to contact.

What Can You Not Put in a Dumpster in Phoenix, AZ?

Most remodeling and cleanout debris is fine. The limits come from Arizona rules and from the City transfer stations that take most local loads.

The City's transfer station rules turn away regulated hazardous waste, PCBs, radioactive and infectious waste, and commercial amounts of liquids. Friable asbestos is refused, and other asbestos needs City approval first. Tires can't go into City landfills under state law, so keep them out of your container.

Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos don't belong in a standard dumpster either. Large buckets and drums must be empty and open. Refrigerators and air conditioners need their Freon removed before disposal.

If you're unsure about an item, check with your account manager before you load it.

What Can I Throw in a Dumpster Rental?

Household Debris Approved for Dumpster Rentals

Construction and Heavy Debris Accepted for Dumpster Rentals

If the item you want to dispose of isn’t on this list, give us a call for more guidance or check out our guide of what you can throw in a dumpster.

*Approved items may vary by location. Always check your local laws and regulations to avoid any fines or additional fees.

Where Your Waste Goes

Loads from north Phoenix usually go to the City's North Gateway Transfer Station at 30205 N. Black Canyon Hwy., Phoenix, AZ 85085. It sits about half a mile northeast of the Dixileta Drive exit on I-17. Loads from the south and west side can go to the 27th Avenue Transfer Station at 3060 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009.

Both sites are run by the City of Phoenix Public Works Department. They're open Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. They're closed on Sundays.

Every load is weighed coming in and going out, and staff may ask for loads to be sorted so more material gets recycled. Your account manager will confirm which station takes your load and explain the fees before delivery.

North Gateway Transfer Station

30205 N. Black Canyon Hwy., Phoenix, AZ 85085

City of Phoenix transfer station, open Monday to Friday 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

27th Avenue Transfer Station

3060 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009

City of Phoenix transfer station with the same hours; closed Sundays.

How Fast Can You Get a Dumpster in Phoenix, AZ?

Most Phoenix orders can be set up within one to two business days, with the dumpster arriving in a 24 to 48 hour window. Booking a few days ahead gives you time to handle any street request and pick the best drop spot.

A few tips for a smooth drop:

  • Tell us what's going in. Concrete, tile, and yard waste each weigh differently, and details help us quote you right.
  • Call early. Next-day openings go first, so a morning call gives you more options.
  • Protect your driveway. Summer heat softens asphalt, so ask about boards under the container.
  • Handle the street request first. If the container will restrict a street or sidewalk, contact the Right-of-Way Management Office before you set a date.
  • Let us know when you're done. Your account manager can line up pickup as soon as the job is finished.

The transfer stations close on Sundays, so a dumpster filled over the weekend usually heads out on Monday.

Phoenix, AZ Dumpster Questions

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Phoenix, AZ?

Phoenix dumpster rentals run from $399 to $499 for a 10-yard container up to $699 to $899 for a 40-yard container, for a five-day rental. The weight of your debris and the City's per-ton disposal fees also shape the total. Your account manager confirms the included tonnage and overage rate before delivery.

Is it cheaper to rent a dumpster or go to the dump?

Hauling debris yourself means a City minimum fee on every trip, plus fuel, a truck, and a long drive to the transfer station. On a bigger job, those runs add up fast. A dumpster stays on site while you work and leaves in one trip, which usually saves money and time.

Will a couch fit in a 10-yard dumpster?

Yes. A three-seat couch takes up about a fifth of a 10-yard dumpster. You'll still have room for a mattress, chairs, and boxes. Bulky furniture fills up space before it gets close to the weight limit.

When renting a dumpster, what can you not put in it?

Keep out hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos. Tires can't go to City landfills under state law, and appliances need their Freon removed first. Large drums must be empty and open. Ask your account manager about anything you're unsure of before loading it.

What is the cheapest dumpster I can rent in Phoenix, AZ?

The 10-yard dumpster is our lowest-priced option, at $399 to $499. It's a smart choice for concrete or pavers, but watch the weight limit, since heavy material adds up quickly. Keeping masonry in its own load often helps you avoid overage charges.

How much is it to rent a dumpster for 3 days?

A three-day rental normally costs the same as a five-day rental, because pricing is based on the job, not the calendar. Weight makes a bigger difference to your bill than time. Ask your account manager about the included tonnage and overage rate before the container arrives.

What can you legally put in a dumpster?

Most home and construction debris is allowed, including lumber, drywall, roofing, flooring, cabinets, furniture, yard waste, and cardboard. Concrete, block, and gravel are accepted too, and they're easier to price as a separate load. Check with your account manager before loading anything you're not sure about.
