Massachusetts has some of the strictest disposal rules in the country, so it's worth planning before you load.
MassDEP's waste disposal bans keep these materials out of the trash: asphalt pavement, brick, and concrete; clean drywall; metals; glass, metal, and plastic containers; recyclable paper and cardboard; leaves and yard waste; old TVs and monitors with picture tubes; lead acid batteries; and large appliances. Mattresses and textiles joined the list on November 1, 2022. Wood and whole tires are banned from landfills.
Some of those materials, like drywall scraps, wood, and brick, are common on a remodel. Tell us about them up front, since they change where your load can go and may need to be kept separate.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos are never allowed in a standard dumpster. Propane tanks stay out too.
