On your own property, a yard, a driveway, or a fenced job site, you're fine without a permit. The moment a unit touches public ground, Littleton has a rule for it.
Streets, sidewalks, and alleys. The City is explicit: a right-of-way permit is needed for any work or equipment occupying the public right-of-way, sidewalks and alleys included. Applications run through the City's online permit portal and want a traffic control plan, and contractors working in the right-of-way have to be licensed with the City and carry bonds and insurance.
Events. A City event permit is due at least 30 days ahead through that same portal. You need one if the event is open to the public or if any of these apply: more than 100 people, a city park, trail, street, or public building, anything outside the venue's normal use, food trucks, amplified sound outdoors, stages, tents, canopies, generators, or a street or sidewalk closure. Serving alcohol adds a separate liquor permit due 45 days out. Questions go to Community Development at 303-734-8076.
Watch the boundary. Not every Littleton address is inside the city limits, and the City can't permit an event in South Platte Park at all. Events in Littleton parks and on the trails run through South Suburban Parks and Recreation instead.
Backyard gatherings. A private, invitation-only party at your home needs no event permit. If you want your street closed, notify the Public Works traffic desk at 303-795-3834 first.
State highways. For a state road, Colorado's transportation department issues utility and special use permits through its regional permit coordinators, and it tells first-time applicants to call the region before filing.

Look for compacted, level ground with a straight shot in. Littleton's mature neighborhoods hide a lot of low branches and tight turns, and a driver who has to back down an alley loses time on every visit. Mark the spot clearly if the site is busy.
Hold units at least 15 feet away from food service, and keep them clear of storm drains, ditch laterals, and the creek corridor. On a job site, 200 feet or less between the work and the units keeps crews productive. Weekly service is what a standard rental includes: tank pumped, interior washed and sanitized, paper and sanitizer replaced. Summer heat, alcohol, and big crews all argue for a second visit, and winter argues for a placement the plow won't block.
Littleton is unusual in that you can point to exactly where the waste goes. South Platte Renew, the treatment plant Littleton co-owns with Englewood, runs a septic waste receiving facility that takes domestic waste from septic tanks and portable toilets and nothing else. Haulers need a permit in advance, carry manifest and sampling obligations, and bring every truck in for inspection before it can discharge.
