The City's permits page lists building permits, licenses, rezoning, and curb cut approvals, but it doesn't list a separate permit for a dumpster in the street. Curb cuts and driveway work go through the Streets and Drainage Department, which handles City streets.

Most household and construction debris can go in your container. Georgia's landfill rules and the local landfill's own list set the limits.
State rules from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division keep regulated hazardous waste, radioactive waste, PCB waste, and liquid waste out of landfills.
Walker Mountain Landfill adds its own list. It won't accept hazardous waste, asbestos, liquid waste, batteries, tires still on rims, or appliances that hold Freon. It also turns away garbage mixed with yard trimmings, so keep brush and household trash apart when you can.
Paint, solvents, and fuel can't go in a standard dumpster either. Loose tires are accepted at the landfill by weight, so mention any tires when you book.

It's run by the City's Solid Waste Processing and Disposal Department under the Rome-Floyd Solid Waste Commission. The landfill is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's closed Sundays and major holidays.
One rule stands out. The landfill won't take waste from outside Floyd County, so your debris has to come from a job inside the county to go there.
Recyclables have a separate home. The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center at 412 Lavender Drive takes cardboard, paper, cans, and plastics, and its drop-off area also takes appliances and scrap metal. The recycling center is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and its phone number is 706-291-5266.
