In Athens, the type of debris matters even more than usual, because it decides which county takes your load.
Size is the starting point. A bigger container costs more, but the right fit saves you from overage charges or a second haul.
Weight comes next. Shingles, tile, and concrete use up a weight allowance fast, while furniture and boxes fill space long before they get heavy.
Then comes the split that shapes every Athens quote. The Athens-Clarke County Landfill takes household trash at $75 per ton with a $20 minimum, but it doesn't accept construction and demolition debris at all. Cabinets, carpet, drywall, flooring, lumber, and shingles have to travel to a separate landfill outside the county, and that longer trip is part of what you pay for.
A few items carry their own charge at the county landfill, such as mattresses, box springs, and tires. Mention them when you call, and your account manager will build them into your quote.
