Ordinary household junk and building debris are welcome. The limits come from Louisiana's landfill rules and from what the parish itself refuses to collect.
Lafourche Parish lists paint thinners, turpentine, antifreeze, solvents, and oil-based paint as hazardous waste. For those, the parish points residents to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality hazardous waste hotline. Car batteries and motor oil belong at an auto parts store or a recycling drop-off, not in a container.
Keep out liquids of any kind, including sealed cans of paint, chemicals, oil, or grease. Gas tanks, propane or butane tanks, and drums don't belong in a dumpster either, and neither do fuel or asbestos.
Tires and white goods like refrigerators, washers, and stoves are handled separately. The parish runs a waste tire program for residents, capped at five tires per person per day. Call the parish Solid Waste office at 985-537-7603 to learn more.
