Most household junk and building debris can go in your container. The limits come from Virginia's landfill rules and from the Prince William County landfill's own list.
The county's landfill rules turn away hazardous waste, asbestos, liquids, gas cylinders, acids, caustics, explosives, and stumps from haulers and contractors. Junked cars aren't accepted, and fuel tanks and drums must be cleaned to Virginia Department of Environmental Quality standards first. Haulers also can't bring in used oil, antifreeze, batteries, or electronics.
Tires are treated as special waste with their own fee. Virginia requires landfills to cut or shred tires before burying them, so keep them out of your main load and mention them when you book.
Paint, solvents, and fuel stay out of a standard dumpster too. County residents can bring household hazardous waste and electronics to the landfill on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
When something on your list seems borderline, ask your account manager before you toss it in.
