The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality bans several items from landfills: vehicles, large appliances, used oil, tires, lead-acid batteries, and computers, monitors, and TVs. DEQ warns that people who haul their own trash can be held liable for dumping any of these at a disposal site.
Some of those items still have a place to go. The Salem-Keizer transfer station takes appliances and tires for a per-item fee and recycles car batteries, most electronics, metals, and used motor oil at no charge.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos aren't allowed in a standard dumpster. Keep TVs, computers, and batteries out of your load, and mention any appliances or tires when you book.
