A container on private property, such as your driveway or a job site you control, needs no city permit in Aiken. Once it sits in a street the City maintains, you need permission first.
The City calls it an encroachment permit. Its Engineering and Utilities Department describes the application as a request for permission to work within City maintained rights-of-way, granted under the conditions written into the permit itself.

Ordinary construction and cleanout debris is fine to load. The limits come from what Aiken County's landfills accept and from the rules that apply to any container.
The county lists four categories for its construction and demolition landfills: construction and demolition debris, furniture, land clearing debris, and yard waste. Asbestos is a special case, accepted only in non-friable form and only at the county's Wagener site.
The county also limits its landfills to waste generated inside Aiken County. That matters if you own property on both sides of the county line, so mention it when you book.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel never belong in a standard container. Appliances, tires, batteries, and electronics all travel separately as well. If an item has you guessing, ask your account manager before it goes in.

The county closes its landfills every Sunday and on eleven holidays through the year, which is a longer list than most places keep. Worth a glance before you plan the last day of a job.
