Here's how the price of a Peculiar rental comes together.
First, the size. A larger container costs more, but it's usually cheaper than an overage charge or a second trip when a small one fills up.
Second, the weight. Shingles, concrete, and tile get heavy fast, and heavy loads use up the included tonnage long before the container looks full. Appliances and tires need their own route in Missouri, so mention them when you call.
Third, the drive. Cass County has no public landfill. Loads from Peculiar pass through a privately run transfer station in Harrisonville, about 9 miles south, and those stations don't post their disposal fees.
The state also takes a small share of every ton. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is raising its fee on landfills and transfer stations from $2.11 to $2.18 per ton on October 1, 2026. The 10-Yard Dumpster takes a single-room tear-out, such as an old vanity, a toilet, and carpet from a couple of rooms. It's also the pick for concrete or brick, which get heavy long before they fill the space.
The 15-Yard Dumpster covers a garage cleanout or a roof tear-off on a modest house, with room to spare over the 10-yard.
The 20-Yard Dumpster handles a full interior gut, including cabinets, flooring, and drywall from a mid-size remodel. Many Peculiar homeowners start here.
The 30-Yard Dumpster fits new construction, additions, and major renovations that throw off a lot of mixed debris.

If your dumpster sits on private property, like a driveway or a job site, you generally won't need a City permit in Peculiar. Once any part of it reaches the street or the public right-of-way, check with the City first.
Peculiar's Building Permits Division, part of Development Services, issues a Right-of-Way Permit and lists it on the City's permits and applications page. The City's street rules are written mostly for work that cuts into the pavement, so ask staff which permit, if any, covers a container sitting on the street at your address.
Call Development Services at 816-779-2200. The office is at City Hall, 250 S. Main Street. The City doesn't post an approval time, so reach out before you pick a delivery date.
Peculiar also has a hauling rule to know about. The City's solid waste rules say no business may collect, transport, or dispose of solid waste inside city limits without a contract with the City. Your account manager will confirm how that rule applies to your rental before anything is scheduled, and will help you reach the right City contact.
Most construction and cleanout debris is fine to load. Missouri's landfill rules set most of the limits.
State law has kept major appliances, waste oil, and lead-acid batteries out of Missouri landfills since 1991, and yard waste since 1992. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources explains that the appliance ban covers refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, water heaters, and other white goods. Microwaves were taken off that list in 2002.
The same state guidance keeps whole tires out of landfills too, along with car and boat batteries. Oil filters are allowed once they've drained for at least 24 hours.
Paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos stay out of a standard container as well. Pull brush and grass clippings out of the load, since Missouri treats yard waste separately. If anything on your list is a question mark, ask your account manager before it goes in.

Cass County doesn't run a public landfill. According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the county's active solid waste sites are two transfer stations in Harrisonville, the county seat, about 9 miles south of Peculiar. Both are privately owned, and neither posts its disposal fees.
At a transfer station, loads are weighed, combined, and sent on to a permitted landfill. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources charges each station a fee on every ton it receives, and the station builds that into its own rates.
What that means for you is that the disposal part of your price is set privately, not by a posted county schedule. Your account manager confirms where your container is going and explains the disposal charges before delivery.
Most rentals in Peculiar can be scheduled within one to two business days, with delivery arriving in a 24 to 48 hour window. Calling a few days ahead leaves time to settle any street placement question with the City.
