Several local factors move the price of a dumpster in Kent.

The 20-Yard Dumpster is a common choice in Kent for emptying a whole house or remodeling a kitchen and a couple of other rooms.

If the dumpster sits on private property, such as your driveway or a paved lot, you usually won't need a street permit in Kent. Placing it on a City street, alley, or sidewalk is a different matter.
Kent's code requires a street use permit from the Public Works director before anyone uses a public place for private purposes. Storing or placing material or equipment in a public place counts, so a container in the street falls under the rule.
The City Council sets the permit fee by resolution, and Kent's code doesn't list a fixed amount or a review time. Start with the City's Permit Center, which says it usually answers questions within one to two business days.

Most remodel and cleanout debris can go in. The limits come from Washington State rules and from King County's list of what its facilities refuse.
Washington law says mercury-containing lights, such as fluorescent tubes and CFL bulbs, can't knowingly be put in the trash for a landfill. Pull them out before loading and take them to a collection site.
King County's disposal restrictions add more. TVs, computers, monitors, laptops, phones, and tablets are not accepted. Major appliances like fridges, washers, stoves, and water heaters are refused for disposal and must be recycled. Rechargeable, car, and button batteries are turned away, and asbestos needs County approval first.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel can't go in a standard dumpster either.

Kent runs its garbage service through a hauler under contract with the City, and City code says only haulers the City authorizes may haul solid waste here. Recyclable materials are treated differently. Your account manager will confirm how this rule applies to your job before you book.
Where a Kent load ends up depends on what's in it. Household trash and cleanout junk go through a King County transfer station and on to the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley. The County says Cedar Hills serves all of King County except Seattle and Milton, so Kent is inside its area. The landfill itself isn't open to the public.
Two County stations sit close to Kent. The Bow Lake Recycling & Transfer Station, at 18800 Orillia Road S, Tukwila, WA 98188, is open 24 hours Monday through Thursday, with shorter hours Friday through Sunday. The South County Recycling & Transfer Station, at 35101 W Valley Hwy S, Algona, WA 98001, replaced the old Algona station in 2026. It's open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The County's information line is 206-477-4466.
Construction debris follows a different path. Mixed loads from job sites have to go to a County-designated construction and demolition facility, where much of the material is recycled.
