The 10-Yard Dumpster is our shortest container and the easiest to fit beside a lake cottage. It suits a bathroom, a small deck teardown, or dense debris such as concrete, brick and sand.
The 15-Yard Dumpster covers a garage, a boathouse cleanout, or flooring and trim taken out of a couple of rooms.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the size most households here choose. It handles a full cleanout or a kitchen remodel and still fits a normal driveway.
The 30-Yard Dumpster is right for additions, whole-house renovations and new construction, where framing scrap builds up faster than expected.
The 40-Yard Dumpster is our largest size. Commercial crews use it for tenant improvements, roof replacements and any job that produces a lot of bulky, light material.

A container on private property, whether that's your own driveway or a fenced site, needs nothing from the City. The road right-of-way is a different matter, and that boundary usually reaches past the pavement.
The City of Norton Shores states on its right-of-way permit page that a permit is needed to work in the road right-of-way, with two business days' notice before anything begins. The Streets Division handles those permits and also looks after public sidewalks within the right-of-way.

The county landfill publishes a clear list, and it is the list your load has to satisfy.
Muskegon County refuses refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, along with whole tires, lead acid batteries, asbestos, hazardous waste, medical waste, yard waste, deposit beverage containers, used oil, liquids, empty drums, radioactive material and reusable propane tanks. Anyone who brings prohibited material can be turned around with it.
Michigan sets much of that statewide. The state environmental agency keeps grass, leaves, sticks and landscape trimmings out of landfills, allows tires only after they are cut or shredded, and requires bulk liquids from a business to be solidified before disposal.
Paint, solvents, fuel and any other hazardous product should never go in a roll-off container. Deposit cans and bottles are worth returning to a retailer instead.
Mattresses and couches can go in, but each one carries a charge at the scale. Mention them when you book and your account manager will fold the cost into your quote.

Norton Shores runs no municipal trash service at all, and says so plainly: arranging a private service is the property owner's job. That makes a roll-off container the normal route for a project of any size.
Loads from the city go to the Muskegon County Landfill at 9366 Apple Avenue, Ravenna, MI 49451, which the City points residents to on its own pages. The county facility takes municipal solid waste and demolition debris but no hazardous waste, and it accepts loads only from Muskegon, Ottawa, Oceana, Newaygo and Lake counties. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it closes promptly, so late arrivals may not get through the scale.
Leaves and brush stay closer to home. The City keeps two yard waste sites for residents, one at the east end of Randall Road at Martin Road and one on Wood Road south of Pontaluna Road, with bagged leaves and small brush accepted depending on the site.
