Most debris from a remodel or cleanout can go in the container. The limits come from Minnesota's disposal laws and from what the landfill will accept.
Minnesota has two landfill rules that come up often. Waste tires have been banned from land disposal since 1985. Major appliances can't go in mixed trash or into a landfill either. That covers refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, water heaters, and similar units, which must be recycled.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos are also off limits in a standard dumpster. The landfill near Elk River doesn't take hazardous waste, and some materials must be scheduled ahead of time.
For household chemicals, paint, and batteries, Sherburne County holds hazardous waste collection events during the year. Your account manager can tell you what to pull out before you start loading.
