The 15-Yard Dumpster fits a garage or storage room cleanout, carpet and pad removal across a few rooms, or a small roof. It gives you breathing room without jumping to a much bigger container.

When the dumpster stays on private property, such as your driveway or a building lot, the City of Farmington generally doesn't require a permit. Once any part of the container sits in the street, the curb area, or other public right-of-way, you need City approval first.
Farmington calls this an Obstruction Permit. The City's right-of-way permits page says it's needed when a project blocks free and open passage over the right-of-way. The Engineering Department handles it through Dakota County's One Stop Roadway Permit Shop, where you pick Obstruction Permit as the permit type. First-time users create an account in that system before applying.
The fee is $50 on the City's 2026 fee schedule. The City doesn't post a review time, so apply well before your delivery date. For questions, call Farmington City Hall at 651-280-6800. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 7 to 11 a.m.

Most remodeling and cleanout debris is fine. Minnesota law is what rules out several common household items.
The state has banned waste tires from land disposal since 1985, so tires can't ride along in a mixed load. Major appliances like washers, dryers, stoves, and refrigerators can't go in with mixed trash or into a landfill either. Old tube TVs and monitors are out as well, because anything with a cathode-ray tube is kept out of regular waste.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos also stay out of a standard dumpster.
Dakota County gives residents a place for many of these items. The Recycling Zone in Eagan takes household chemicals, aerosols, antifreeze, and batteries for free. It charges a $10 fee for TVs and monitors and from $6 for tires.
Set those items aside before you start filling the container. If you aren't sure about something, ask your account manager first.

Farmington requires every home and business to use the City's contracted hauler for regular trash and recycling, according to the City's trash and recycling page. That setup covers weekly cart service. Your account manager will confirm how it applies to a temporary roll-off at your address before you book.
Once your container is picked up, the load goes to one of the transfer stations or landfills on Dakota County's disposal list. The closest to town is a transfer station on 165th Street East in Rosemount, about 7 miles away. Pine Bend Landfill, at 2495 117th Street East in Inver Grove Heights, takes household trash and construction and demolition debris. The county tells residents to call each site for fees, hours, and accepted items.
For the items no landfill will take, the county runs The Recycling Zone at 3365 Dodd Road, Eagan, MN 55122. It's open to residents Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday from noon to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The phone number is 952-891-7800.
