If your dumpster sits on private property, like your driveway, you generally don't need City approval in Willmar. If it sits on a City street, alley, or boulevard, the City's fees apply.
Willmar's fee schedule lists dumpster and service parking at $30.00 a month. A separate right-of-way fee of $125.00 per crossing applies if the work digs into or crosses the street itself, which a container sitting on the surface normally doesn't.
The City doesn't publish a review time. Call Willmar Public Works at 320-235-4252 to ask which fee applies to your spot and how soon you can get approval. The department is at 801 Industrial Drive SW.

Most household and construction debris is fine to load. The limits come from Minnesota law and the county landfill.
Minnesota's rules are clear on two items. The state's waste tire rule says disposal of waste tires in the land is prohibited, so tires never belong in a dumpster. Since July 1, 2006, state law also bars putting any electronic product with a picture tube, like an old tube TV or monitor, in household trash.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, batteries, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either.
The county landfill gives you a route for some of these. Its 2026 rate sheet takes residential TVs and computer monitors for $25.00 each, and it has separate per-piece charges for tires and appliances. Let us know about any of these when you book.

Trash from Willmar goes to the Kandiyohi County Sanitary Landfill at 15650 Highway 71 NE, New London, MN 56273, about 15 miles northeast of town. Kandiyohi County runs it, and the phone number is 320-354-2707.
From May 1 through October 31, the landfill is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon. From November 1 through April 30, weekday hours stay the same, but it opens only on the second and fourth Saturdays. Anyone arriving within 10 minutes of closing may be turned away, according to the county's landfill page.
