The 10-Yard Dumpster fits a small bathroom remodel, a shed or cabin cleanout, or an old concrete step. Dense debris hits the weight cap before the container fills, so this size is best for rock and concrete.
The 15-Yard Dumpster covers a garage cleanout, a flooring job, or a small roof. You get extra room without much added cost.
The 20-Yard Dumpster handles a whole-house cleanout or a remodel across several rooms. It's a good size for most Silver Bay homes.
The 30-Yard Dumpster suits big renovations, additions, and new homes that produce lots of lumber, drywall and packaging.

A dumpster on private property, like your driveway or yard, usually doesn't need a permit in Silver Bay. If the container would sit on a City street, boulevard or other right-of-way, talk to the City first.
The City lists a Right-of-Way Permit on its permits page, along with building, land use and driveway permits. The City asks for every permit application at least two weeks before the project starts, so plan ahead if your project needs one.
Winter adds another rule. From November 1 to April 30, parking on City streets isn't allowed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. so crews can plow. A container in the street during those months can get in the way of snow removal.

Most household junk and construction debris can go in your container. The limits come from Minnesota's disposal bans and Lake County's facilities.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency bans TVs and monitors with picture tubes from the trash. Fluorescent bulbs and tubes must be recycled, and rechargeable batteries can't go in everyday trash either. Lake County's Recycle Center takes electronics, mattresses, tires and appliances during its open hours.
Beyond that, hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. Lake County collects household hazardous waste on Wednesdays year-round.

Lake County takes construction and demolition debris at the Lake County Demolition Landfill, which the county owns and runs. The county's Solid Waste office is at 601 3rd Ave in Two Harbors, and you can reach it at 218-834-8304.
The landfill keeps short hours. From May through October, it's open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. From November through April, it's open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment. You can check the schedule on the county's demolition landfill page.
Because the landfill is open only a couple of days a week, pickups are timed around those days. Your account manager can confirm where your load is going and explain the fees before delivery.
