A handful of things decide what a dumpster costs you in Fair Lawn.
Size sets the starting point. A larger container costs more, but one that fits the job keeps you clear of overage fees and a second haul.
Weight comes next. Bergen County facilities charge by the ton, so plaster, tile, and old roofing push the bill up quickly. Let us know about tires, mattresses, or appliances when you call, since they're often handled apart from the rest of the load.
The destination matters as well. Since 2024, Bergen County has required every load of trash made in the county to go to a facility on its approved list. The county doesn't set the fees at those sites, so each one charges its own rate.
The Borough does offer a small self-haul option. Residents can drop construction debris at the Recycling Center with vouchers that cost $50 each, which works out to $50 for a car, $100 for a trailer, and $150 for an SUV, van, or pickup, per trip. Contractors and rented trucks aren't allowed. For a full remodel, a dumpster is usually the faster and cheaper choice.
