A few things push the price of a New Brunswick dumpster up or down.
Size comes first. A container that fits the whole job costs less than paying for a second one when the first fills up.

The 20-Yard Dumpster is a common pick for student housing turnovers, whole-house cleanouts, and multi-room renovations.

In many towns, a dumpster on private property, such as your driveway, needs no permit. New Brunswick is different. The City's code on dumpsters, roll-offs, and drop boxes lists a $25.00 permit for a container on private property and a $50.00 permit for one in the public right-of-way.
No container can go on a City street, alley, or sidewalk without a permit from the city engineer. The application needs the exact location and a valid construction or demolition permit. Street placements also need a deposit of at least $500.00 to cover any damage to the road.
Each permit lasts up to 30 days, and you can extend it in 30-day steps for up to six months. Containers must show the owner's name and phone number and carry reflectors on each side. Your account manager can help you reach the city engineer's office and line up the permit before delivery.
Most renovation and cleanout debris can go in your container. The limits come from New Jersey law and from the county landfill's rules.
Since 2011, New Jersey has banned throwing away TVs, computers, monitors, and laptops as regular trash. The state's e-waste guidance sends residents to collection centers instead, so take electronics out before loading.
The Middlesex County Landfill does not accept asbestos or hazardous waste. As with any dumpster, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel stay out too. The City also requires dumpsters to be covered so nothing spills or blows into storm drains.

Most dumpster loads from New Brunswick go to the Middlesex County Landfill on Edgeboro Road in East Brunswick, just across the Raritan River. The landfill is run by the Middlesex County Utilities Authority, a public agency, and its landfill office is at 53 Edgeboro Road.
The landfill takes household trash and bulky waste, including construction debris and furniture. Trucks are weighed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. Trucks that arrive after closing are turned away. You can reach the Authority at 732-721-3800.
