Borough rules do set how a container has to sit in the street. The side nearest the curb must be at least six inches and no more than 12 inches from the curb edge. The container has to stay 35 feet clear of an intersection and 50 feet clear of a stop sign, and it must carry at least four lit lanterns, on from a half hour before sunset until a half hour after sunrise. Nothing may be left standing in a Fort Lee street from sunset Saturday through sunrise Monday unless the Chief of Police grants permission.
