On private property, such as your own driveway or a fenced job site, a container needs no city permit in Temple. That covers the large majority of the rentals we deliver here.
The public street is a different story. Temple's street rules make it unlawful to set an obstruction on a city street or sidewalk, and the City does not publish a routine permit that lets a container sit in the roadway. The one sidewalk exception in the rules is narrow: a merchant unloading goods, half the sidewalk at most, and only for a couple of hours. In practice, that means planning for a spot on your own property.
If your lot leaves no room, the City of Temple Permit Office is the place to start. The office is at 2 N Main Street and the number is 254-298-5640. Applications run through the City's online portal, and the City asks for ten business days to review a permit once it's paid for.

Ordinary household and construction debris is fine. The limits come from Texas rules and from what the landfill will take at the gate.
Texas keeps hazardous waste out of municipal landfills completely, and it sorts industrial and special wastes into separate categories that need state approval before a landfill can accept them. Whole tires are out as well. The state allows tires only after they've been split, quartered, or shredded, so tires need their own route.
Paint, solvents, fuel, motor oil, pool chemicals, pesticides, and asbestos never belong in a roll-off container either. Neither do liquids of any kind, or appliances holding refrigerant, which have to be drained by a technician first.
The landfill has its own conditions on arrival. Every load has to be fully covered and tarped or a fee is added, and anyone stepping out of a vehicle on site needs a safety vest. Our drivers handle the tarping, which is one less thing on your list.
