The 10-Yard Dumpster is right for a hall bath remodel, a closet and bedroom purge, or a load of yard waste. It's also the best fit for concrete, brick, or rock, since dense material maxes out the weight before the container is full.
The 15-Yard Dumpster handles a garage cleanout, new flooring, or tearing off one layer of shingles on a modest home.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is a popular size for whole-house cleanouts and remodels that span a few rooms.
The 30-Yard Dumpster suits big renovations, room additions, and new home builds with lots of mixed debris.
The 40-Yard Dumpster is the largest we offer. It's meant for commercial projects, large demolition, and major property cleanouts.

A dumpster placed on private property, such as your driveway, usually doesn't need a City permit. Placement on a street or other public right-of-way is a separate question you should settle with the City first.
Universal City's permits page doesn't list a dumpster or right-of-way permit among the permits it issues. It tells you to contact the Development Services Department for anything not on the list.
Call Development Services at 210-659-0333. City offices are at 2150 Universal City Boulevard and are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Inside the city limits, the franchise contract also says containers go on the customer's property at a spot the City Manager approves, so a driveway is the safest plan.

Most remodeling, roofing, and cleanout debris is fine. The limits come from Texas landfill rules and from the landfill that receives your load.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality bars several wastes from every municipal landfill in the state. They include lead-acid batteries, used motor oil and oil filters, whole tires, refrigerators and air conditioners with refrigerant, liquid waste, regulated hazardous waste, PCB waste, and radioactive material. Tires can go to a permitted landfill only after they've been split, quartered, or shredded.
Hazardous waste, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either. The City's own bulk pickup rules turn away household hazardous waste, tires, commercial debris, contractor debris, and Freon appliances without a certification tag.
Check with your account manager about anything you're unsure of before it goes in the container.

Universal City's franchise contract sends trash collected inside the city to a Class 1 municipal solid waste landfill permitted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The state's list of active landfills shows two landfills of that kind in Bexar County, and both are run by private companies with their own hours and fees.
The same list explains a useful difference. Type I landfills can take all kinds of household and commercial trash. Type IV landfills take only brush, construction and demolition debris, and similar dry waste, with no household garbage. The City's landfill handout lists one construction-only site just up FM 78 in Schertz, so a clean load of building debris may have a closer option than a mixed cleanout does.
For you, the kind of debris decides the destination. Your account manager will confirm which landfill takes your load and go over the disposal fees before delivery.
Most rentals in the area can be scheduled within one to two business days, with delivery landing in a 24 to 48 hour window. Calling a few days early gives time to confirm the franchise question and prepare your driveway.

Yes. A three-seat couch uses about a fifth of a 10-yard dumpster. You'll still have space for a mattress, a few chairs, and several boxes. Couches are bulky but light, so you'll fill the space long before you hit the weight limit.
Leave out hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, asbestos, car batteries, and used motor oil. Texas also bars whole tires and appliances with refrigerant from landfills unless they're handled properly first.
