A handful of things decide what a Bergenfield rental costs you.

The 10-Yard Dumpster fits a bathroom stripped to the studs, a small apartment cleanout, or a spring yard project. It's also the smart pick for brick, stone, or concrete, since heavy material hits the weight limit long before it reaches the top.
The 15-Yard Dumpster is a good middle size for a garage cleanout, a kitchen tear-out, or one layer of shingles off a Cape Cod or ranch home.
The 20-Yard Dumpster handles a full house cleanout or a remodel that runs through several rooms. Many Bergenfield homeowners land on this size.
The 30-Yard Dumpster suits additions, gut renovations, and new construction where lumber, drywall, and roofing come out together.
The 40-Yard Dumpster is our biggest container. It's meant for commercial jobs, large demolition, and big property cleanouts with a lot of bulky waste.

When the dumpster sits on private property, such as your driveway or a paved spot on your lot, you usually won't need a Borough permit. If the container has to go on a Borough street, plan to get permission first.
Bergenfield has its own form for this, the Dumpster/Storage Container Permit Application. The Borough lists it with the Police Department's documents. The Borough doesn't post a fee or a review time for it online, so call before you set a delivery date.
For questions about the form, call the Borough of Bergenfield at 201-387-4055. Borough Hall is at 198 N. Washington Ave. The Borough says permits are issued between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the Building Department answers at extension 4 on the same line if you want to ask whether your driveway spot needs anything.
The Borough code also sets a rule for open-top containers. A roll-off without a lid can stay uncovered only if it holds no food waste, the debris stays below the top edge, nothing can blow out of it, and it doesn't create a health nuisance. Keep the load level with the walls and you'll stay on the right side of that rule.

Most debris from a remodel, a roof job, or a cleanout is fine to load. The limits come from New Jersey's disposal rules and from what Bergen County's transfer stations accept.
New Jersey has banned throwing away TVs, computers, laptops, and computer monitors as regular trash since January 1, 2011. Pull them out before you load. The Borough collects this kind of electronics from residents at the Department of Public Works building behind Borough Hall.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, motor oil, propane tanks, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either. The Borough's DPW crews also won't take tires, chemicals, wet paint, fluorescent bulbs, or car and rechargeable batteries at the curb, so plan a separate drop-off for those. Bergen County runs household hazardous waste collection events for residents.

Bergenfield's own trash service won't collect contractor debris, concrete, bricks, asphalt, or rocks. The Borough says that kind of waste has to be removed at the owner's own expense, which is where a roll-off comes in.
Once your container is full, Bergen County's flow control rules decide where it can go. Every load must reach one of the facilities on the county's designated disposal facility list, and haulers who take county waste anywhere else face enforcement. The two listed sites closest to Bergenfield are a transfer station at 777 Railroad Avenue in Closter, NJ 07624, and another at 445 North Main Street in Lodi, NJ 07644. Both are privately run and set their own hours and fees.
For you, that means the debris leaves town legally and goes to a site the county has approved. Your account manager will confirm which facility is taking your load and walk you through the disposal fees before delivery.

Most three-day rentals cost the same as our five-day rental. We price by the job instead of by the day, and the weight of the load matters much more than the number of days. Ask your account manager what weight is included and what each extra ton costs.
You can load most household and building debris, including lumber, drywall, flooring, cabinets, roofing, furniture, and general junk. Brick, concrete, and stone are fine too, though they're heavy, so a small container works best for them. If you're unsure about something, ask your account manager first.
