For household chemicals, Anoka County runs a free drop-off site for residents in Blaine. It takes paint, fuel, propane tanks, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and similar products, but not appliances, electronics, tires, or asbestos.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the Elk River area landfill, five miles north of Elk River along U.S. Highway 169 in Sherburne County, takes more waste from Anoka and Hennepin counties than from anywhere else. It's privately owned and takes waste from 23 counties. The agency expects it to reach its permitted capacity in about three years unless a proposed expansion goes ahead.
For hazardous household products, Anoka County offers the Anoka County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 3230 101st Avenue NE, Blaine, MN 55449. From April through October, it's open Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. From November through March, it's open Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There's no charge for residents, and the phone number is 763-324-3400.
