Once a container sits on a public street, the Borough requires a permit first. Lodi's code says a refuse container can't be placed on any street in the Borough without a permit from the Department of Building and Inspections. The Police Department enforces where the container sits, including how far it is from an intersection, how it lines up with the curb, and whether it blocks traffic, a sidewalk, or a driveway.

Bergen County controls where its trash goes. Since January 1, 2024, the Bergen County Utilities Authority has required all solid waste made in the county to go to a designated disposal facility. Those include permitted landfills, transfer stations, and recycling facilities.
One of those designated sites is a transfer station at 445 North Main Street in Lodi. That means many loads from Lodi job sites travel only a short distance before they're sorted and sent on. The county doesn't regulate what designated facilities charge, so each one sets its own disposal fees.
