The 15-Yard Dumpster covers a single-layer roof on a small rambler, a basement that's been collecting boxes for years, or new flooring throughout the main level.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the one Crystal homeowners pick most often for a full-house cleanout or a remodel that touches several rooms at once.
The 30-Yard Dumpster suits a garage teardown, an addition, a new build, or a big renovation with lots of mixed debris.

A dumpster on private property, like your driveway or a job site, generally doesn't need a permit in Crystal. The rules change if the container has to go in the street, an alley, or the boulevard.
Those spaces are public right-of-way. Crystal's city code says no one may block a right-of-way without first getting a right-of-way permit from the Public Works director. The City handles this through its Public Works Permit, which you'll find on the permit applications page along with the sewer, storm water, and water permits.

Most remodel and cleanout debris can go right in. Minnesota law and the facility that takes your load set the limits.
Minnesota bans major appliances from household trash and from landfills. That covers refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, water heaters, and furnaces, which must be recycled instead. The state also bans old TVs and monitors with picture tubes from the trash. Hennepin County adds batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and other mercury items to its list of banned waste.
The usual limits apply as well. Keep hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks, and asbestos out of your container.
If an appliance or TV slips into a load, the county charges by the piece, so pull those items out first. You can take them to a county drop-off center, where fees are much lower.

Hennepin County runs the main trash sites for Crystal. The county's hauler manual names two of them. The Hennepin Energy Recovery Center, or HERC, is at 505 6th Avenue North in Minneapolis and burns trash to make electricity. It's open to haulers seven days a week.
The second is the Hennepin County Recycling Center and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445, a few miles north of Crystal. Haulers use it Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents can use its drop-off center Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with proof of residency. The county's phone number is 612-348-3777.
Neither site takes drywall, concrete, asphalt, or shingles. That means a remodel or roofing load from Crystal goes to a construction recycling facility, while a household cleanout can go to the county.
