Most household and building debris can go right in. Illinois law and the landfill's rules set the limits.
The Illinois EPA says state law bans landfilling TVs, computers, and other common electronics, and it bans landfilling used or waste tires as well. Keep both out of your container.
For electronics, Jackson County has a free option. The Jackson County Health Department's recycling partner, Southern Recycling Center at 300 W. Chestnut Street in Carbondale, takes up to seven items from residents at no charge. It's open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, gas cylinders, batteries, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either.
If you're unsure about an item, ask your account manager before you load it.
