Most household junk and remodeling debris can go in the container. The limits come from Illinois landfill bans and from the rules at the transfer station.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency bans several items from landfills. Landscape waste like grass, leaves, and brush can't be landfilled, and neither can car batteries. Large appliances are banned unless their Freon, mercury switches, and other parts have been removed. Computers, monitors, TVs, and printers must be recycled instead of thrown away.
The Glenview Transfer Station also refuses hazardous waste, household chemicals, liquids, and paint.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos never belong in a standard dumpster. Appliances and mattresses are charged per item, so mention them when you book.
If you're not sure about an item, ask your account manager before it goes in.
