Most remodeling and cleanout debris can go in your container. Illinois landfill law and the transfer station's rules set the limits.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency lists several items banned from landfills. Landscape waste like grass and leaves is banned. So are lead-acid car batteries and liquid used motor oil. Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, and air conditioners are banned unless their Freon, mercury switches, and PCB parts have been removed.
The state also bans televisions, computers, and other common electronics from landfills, along with used tires.
The Glenview Transfer Station won't take hazardous waste, household chemicals, liquids, or paint. Keep solvents, fuel, propane tanks, and asbestos out of your dumpster too.
If an item seems questionable, ask your account manager before you toss it.
