Most debris from a remodel, roof, or cleanout can go right in. The limits come from Illinois law and from what the landfill will take.
Illinois bans a long list of items from landfills. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency lists landscape waste, used tires, motor oil, and car batteries. Appliances like refrigerators, freezers, and water heaters are also banned unless their Freon, mercury switches, and other parts have been removed first.
Electronics have their own rule. It's illegal in Illinois to throw TVs, computers, monitors, printers, and game consoles in the trash. Frankfort Township runs a free electronics drop-off for Will County residents, so pull those items out before you load.
Grass, leaves, and brush count as landscape waste, so they need to stay out of a landfill-bound dumpster. Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks, and asbestos aren't allowed either.
If an item has you second-guessing, ask your account manager before it goes in.
