Most construction and household debris can go in your container. New York's disposal rules and the receiving facility set the limits.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says that since January 1, 2015, many electronics can't be thrown away in the trash or at a landfill. That includes TVs, computers, monitors, printers, and game consoles. The state also bars burying waste tires, and tire shops must take back used tires when you buy new ones.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either. Glen Cove holds a STOP day twice a year for household chemicals, and an E-Waste day for TVs, computers, and batteries.
